April 28, 2007 at 5:59 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

hey guys great to kinda go to my first BBC ride.

Almost missed the pack, but thanks to Weeeeeeeeee i had chance to chill out for a while before heading off. After heading off me and dave got caught on a red and that was it, it took us ages to catch up to the group, but eventually we did which was great.

Had some more chin wagging with a couple of the others , nice to meet those who i hadn’t really met before. The group then turned at blackrock i said my good bye’s to whoever heard my shouts of Byeeeee guys and headed down the road until i to encountered a flat (second this week) anyway got that sorted out then went on my merry way. Bought a new tube in mordi just in case and then headed down to frankston. Not content with frankston headed to mornington, not content with mornignton headed down further nice couple of long winding hills and then before i know it im in Dramana.

Got refuelled with some gator ade and choc bars. then up the beach road towards mornigton again. much nice route this way. Rode through the town this time having never been there before it was a nice place, then it was plain sailing all the way home. All up 168km for the day also got some nice pics which ill post up for you later as well

thanks again for the ride down ill catch you all soon

Anzac Day Ride

April 25, 2007 at 6:57 am | In Giant, australia, cycling, melbourne | Leave a Comment

Quick ride report on the Anzac day pootle around Melbourne. Went out with my GF Heidi who’s not massively into cycling but does love to have a nice leisurely ride.

Started the ride on the Road, then onto the Bicycle Trails, then into the city and then home. Great day for a ride not to warm but hardly cold. Here’s some pics from the ride, even some from the parade in the city.

Ringwood Rings Audax

April 22, 2007 at 7:01 am | In Giant, audax, cycling | Leave a Comment

Today was the day of the Audax ride, my first one. It was a 103km loop. Also had to ride there from home, adding around another 60km so all up 163 km for the day so very pleased with that as the Audax ride itself was pretty hard.

Woke up at 530 to meet gozzo at the corner of Springvale and Canterbury road. Pitch black and the weather still threatning to ruin the day. Got to the meeting point pretty early which was nice to chill out for half an hour prior to starting. Murray eventually rocked up and got himself organised and we filled in our relevent paperwork.

Pretty poor show up, obviously down to the bad weather.

So off we went on our 100km ride, there were just 4 of us, myself, Ian (gozzo) John and Jimmy. We started off and myself and Gozzo took the pace until Gozzo had a bloodt puncture, never mind these things happen and we got it fixed and the other guys caught us up, so chinn wag with Jim and John until we made it off again. We then made it to the halfway cafe break without incident apart form a breif spell of getting lost.

Ordered some food and a drink then it was off for the second half after getting our sheet signed. But no there was yet anotehr flat again for Gozzo (bad luck eh) A second puncture we believe unrelated to the first. So out comes another tube and eventually its fixed.

Second half again was good, a few big hills to challenge us but nothing to painful. So all completed again without to much hassle.

Pulling back up at the meeting point we were greeted with muffins, sugery treats and drinks thanks to murray and his brother ( or brother in law cant rememebr which) enjoyed a bit of a chat before I had to get off. Then it was a gentle ride home to Hawthorn and a nice shower and of course stocking up on some food to fill the stomach.

Dropped the bike off this morning, for a look at some jumpy gears, Wasn’t overlly impressed with the chain jumping around on the back cog, especially for an ultegra equiped bike.

Pleased to report got it back and no such issues now exist. All shifting well and very happy once again.

Looking forward to tomorrows ride once again, the Ringwood loop. AUDAX for more dtails

Wildwood Ride

Ok well here is my real first ride with some of the forum guys that I havent met before. Was pretty nervous about attempting this ride, not because of the rde itself but the uncertainty of what the day would hold.

Had a lift with a guy from the forum, WEEEEEEEEEEE, great guy picked me up from the house and provided my pride and joy with loving care, as to not scratch her.

Met up with the other members then at the meeting point, Jimmy and his good lady dragon lady had arranged this one and what an effort was made. There was more food than i have ever seen before in a bike ride organised by people of there own back. It was awesome, sausages, sandwhiches, cakes, chips, fruit, chocolate you name it, it was there.

We had several stops along with way, with dragon lady driving ahead to provide yet more food and great company to boot.

Did the bigegst section of the ride with Gozzo, who rides pretty much the same bike as me, and also a very similar pace, which is good. The hills were great fun going up, although I did find that i lacked confidence on the downhills as i’m still not totally confident on the new bike as its only the 2nd outing.

Several more stops for food, drink and boys room breakes, saw us back at the starting point, where again a great BBQ was arranged, several more BV forum members joined in for a chat and then off I went, having enjoyed a great days riding, and it just goes to show. Its not just about the bike…

Maiden Voyage

Ok here goes. The first ride

Agreed to meet Kenneth @ Hawthorn Station at around 730, in true Kenneth style I received a call from him at 7 saying he had an issue with locking himslef out of his house (where had he been so early eh  ) and might not be able to make it.

Anyway he eventually turned up at around 8 and we went down to grab Sacha at Chapel St. Then off to Beach road for a trip to Frankston. Got settled on the bike and it all felt really comfortable and dam its fast. Not sure if it was the excitment of the new bike but seemed to be so so much faster than the flat bar.

Stopped then in Black Rock for a juice and just to make sure everyone was comfortable with the pace etc and a chat about nothing.

On then to Mordi, I had a push for the last 3k’s or so to see how the bike performed with some eager effort and yipeeeeee it was even faster than i first thought, and not just faster but easy to keep the speed up there for longer which is awesome.

After a quick trip to the mens room (females for Sacha) onto frankston, great run down the road there where we stopped for a bite to eat. Managed to eventually find somwhere to eat and a few guys eyeing up the bike’s caused me a bit of bother as my pride and joy was making me nervous leaned against the wall, and they looked well dodgy.

After we ate it seemed that Sacha’s pump was missing (was it stolen, i think so). Oh dear. A few snaps by the beach and then it was onwards home, everyones bike still going strong without any issues.

Kenneth then had a few issues with his chain coming off, which put him in the all to common position of his bike upside down making some adjustments , just wouldnt be right for Kenneth not to fiddle with his bike eh

After that it was plain sailing all the way home. Ride was 99km so went down to the 7/11 just to make the ton for the day.

Overall really really pleased witht he new bike, love the way it handles, the comfort and the speed.

Catch some of you on sunday for the next ride.

Picked her up, too her home and had a good grin on my face for most of the night.

Loving it.
